Women's Basketball Season Ends After Hard-Fought Quarterfinal Battle
BARRIE, ON -- A slow start proved too much to overcome as the Georgian Grizzlies’ season came to an end in the OCAA women’s basketball quarterfinals, falling 65-51 to Mohawk on Saturday afternoon. Offensive struggles plagued the Grizzlies early, managing just two points in the opening quarter and eight total in the first half.
Despite the deficit, Georgian showed resilience, mounting a strong fourth-quarter push by outscoring Mohawk 30-16. Kory Hook (Barrie, ON) led the effort with 16 points, knocking down four three-pointers, while Ami May (Raymond, AB) added 11 points, going 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. Kyanna Thompson (Barrie, ON) chipped in eight points, and Daija Thompson (Whitby, ON) provided a spark off the bench with seven points and seven rebounds.
Georgian shot 22.6% from the field, struggling to find rhythm from beyond the arc at 16.7%. Though they won the turnover battle and converted at a solid clip from the free-throw line (73.9%), the early offensive drought proved decisive.
The Grizzlies finish their campaign after a competitive season, showing fight until the final buzzer but falling short in the postseason.
