Women's Basketball Shine on Both Ends in Statement Win
Belleville, ON -- The Georgian Grizzlies extended their impressive season with a commanding 74-58 victory over the Loyalist Lancers. Powered by a balanced offensive effort and relentless defense, the Grizzlies improved to 9-2 on the season.
Georgian's strong start set the tone as they outscored Loyalist 21-9 in the opening quarter, showcasing their scoring efficiency and defensive tenacity. The Grizzlies' dominance in the paint, where they tallied 34 points compared to Loyalist's 10, was a key factor in the win.
Sydney Shawyer (Horseshoe Valley, ON) led the way with a standout performance, contributing 16 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Kory Hook (Barrie, ON) matched Shawyer’s scoring output with 16 points, including four three-pointers, and added three steals to her stat line. Ami May (Raymond, AB) also delivered a crucial contribution with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Emma Vale (Newmarket, ON) provided a spark off the bench, scoring 11 points in just 18 minutes of play.
The Grizzlies’ defense stifled Loyalist throughout the game, holding them to just 29.5% shooting from the field. Georgian also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 18 points off Loyalist's miscues, and out-rebounding their opponents 41-35. Despite a late push from the Lancers in the fourth quarter, Georgian's early lead and consistency ensured a comfortable victory.
