Men’s Rugby Shines with Top OCAA Awards
Barrie, ON -- The Georgian Grizzlies men’s rugby team has been honored with multiple accolades at the 2024 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) awards, highlighting their dedication and skill throughout a competitive season.
Leading the honors, Rielly Kirk (Wasaga Beach, ON) was named the 2024 OCAA Men’s Rugby Player of the Year, recognizing his outstanding all-around performance. Kirk also secured the title of West Division Player of the Year and was named a West Division All-Star. With eight tries, he tied as the leading try-scorer of the season, underscoring his strength and leadership on the field.
Another standout, Ian Crawford (Barrie, ON), was awarded the West Division Defensive Player of the Year. Crawford’s defensive prowess has been instrumental in the Grizzlies' formidable season, showcasing his dedication to the team’s defensive backbone.
Adding to the list of West Division All-Stars, Jake Boulding (Barrie, ON) and Ethan Phillips (Minesing, ON) both earned their spots. Their consistent performances have significantly contributed to the Grizzlies' success.
Rounding out the accolades, Luke Phillips (Minesing, ON) was recognized on the All-Rookie Team for his impressive debut season, marking him as one of the top newcomers in the OCAA.
