Barrie, ON – Today the Georgian Grizzlies proudly announce the appointment of Josh Morgan as the Interim Head Coach for the Georgian Grizzlies Men's Rugby Team. With an impressive background in both playing and coaching rugby, Morgan brings a wealth of experience and passion to lead the team into its next chapter.
Morgan's journey in rugby began in 2004 at Barrie Central Collegiate, where he first developed as a player. He went on to spend five seasons with the Men’s Varsity Rugby Team at the University of Guelph, where his leadership qualities shone bright as he captained the team for three of those seasons. Transitioning from player to mentor, Morgan embarked on his coaching career with the Barrie RFC Men’s Rugby Team in 2015, starting as an Assistant Coach and steadily rising through the ranks.
In 2022, Morgan assumed the role of Men’s Rugby Director for Barrie RFC, further solidifying his commitment to the sport and its community. Concurrently, he has been serving as an Assistant Coach with the Georgian Grizzlies Varsity Men’s Rugby Team since 2015, contributing to the team's growth and success over the years. With his dedication to continuous improvement, Morgan has also achieved the prestigious status of a World Rugby Level 2 Trained Coach.
Expressing his gratitude and excitement for his new role, Morgan stated, "I am honoured and excited to become the Interim Head Coach of the Georgian College Men’s Rugby Team. I want to thank Georgian College for trusting me with this incredible responsibility. Alongside assistant coaches Mike Alcombrack and Mike Sabourin, I am excited to continue the culture of excellence, community, and accountability that has led the Men’s Rugby program to years of success."
"I could not be happier to know Josh is taking over as the Interim Head Coach of our Varsity Rugby team," said John Daggett, the former Georgian Grizzlies Men's Rugby Head Coach. "We have coached together for close to 10 years, and I know he brings dedication, work ethic, and commitment to developing students and athletes to be the best people they can be. Josh is fully committed to team culture, the first principle we use as the foundation of our program. With the continued support of coaches Alcombrack and Sabourin and the incredible support the college provides, I have no doubt he will continue to find success."
As Morgan assumes his new position, the Georgian Grizzlies Men's Rugby Team eagerly anticipates the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead under his guidance. With a proven track record of success and a clear vision for the future, Morgan is poised to lead the team in the upcoming seasons.
