Toronto, ON -- Grizzlies hand George Brown their second loss of season in overtime thriller.
The first half was a close battle. George Brown outscored the Grizzlies by two at the end of the first quarter and led by four entering halftime.
Georgian seemed determined to cut into the lead as the second half was underway. Emanuel Otong (Cambridge, ON), one of two new additions to the Grizzlies' men's basketball roster, was the standout player in this game, scoring an impressive 43 points and collecting 15 rebounds, contributing significantly to his team's victory. Uzziah Glasgow (Vaughan, ON) also contributed 16 points to the Grizzlies impressive win.
The Grizzlies clawed back in the late minutes of the game and tied the game at 83. Georgian had the final possession with 13 seconds left. Glasgow had a chance to win the game for the Grizzlies, but missed a well-contested three point shot as time expired and forcing overtime.
Overtime was all Georgian. The Grizzlies played spectacular defense, forcing turnovers and contesting shots, leading to a 99-91 victory over the division leading George Brown Huskies.
In terms of shooting percentages, Georgian College had a field goal percentage of 43.2% compared to George Brown's 40.8%. However, George Brown had a higher three-point shooting percentage at 34.2% compared to Georgian's 17.9%. Both teams had similar free throw percentages, with Georgian College shooting at 66.7% and George Brown at 59.3%.
George Brown's first loss of the season also came against the Grizzlies on October 25, 2023.
The Grizzlies are back in action on friday night for their first home game of 2024 against Centennial.
