MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM DEFEAT MOHAWK TO ADVANCE TO PROVINCIALS
Samuel Odzenma had a season high 31 points and 11 rebounds as the Grizzlies defeated Mohawk 88-78 to qualify for provincials.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team hosted the Mohawk Mountaineers in an OCAA men's basketball crossover playoff game on Saturday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.
The Grizzlies put together their most complete effort of the season, when it mattered most, defeating the Mountaineers 88-78.
Samuel Odzenma (Mississauga) had his best game of the season scoring a season high 31 points along with 11 rebounds and going 4-for-6 from beyond the arc.
Teammate Nikyle Williams-Mcintosh (Newmarket) had 17 points while also matching a team high in steals with four.
The win qualifies the Grizzlies for the 2020 OCAA Men's Basketball Championship hosted by Lambton College March 6-8.
"That was an amazing all-around effort by our group," said Grizzlies Head Coach Matt Coulson. "Really proud of our guys for the way they played and Sammy (Odzenma) had a great game."
This sets Georgian up with an opening round match-up at the championship against the Humber Hawks (15-5, 1st west) on Friday, March 6.
This will be the second straight season the Grizzlies will face the Hawks in their first match of the OCAA Men's Basketball Championship quarter-finals.
