Georgian Grizzlies Volleyball Celebrates Major OCAA Awards
BARRIE, ON – The Georgian Grizzlies volleyball program capped off an outstanding season with three major Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) awards, recognizing both individual excellence and team success.
Ryan Vriezema (Midhurst, ON) was named to the OCAA Men's Volleyball East Division First Team All-Star roster, solidifying his place among the league’s top athletes. The outside hitter was a dominant force throughout the season, finishing second in total kills (218) and third in total points (259.0) while ranking among the top six in kills per set (3.41) and points per set (4.0). His consistency and high efficiency, reflected in his .351 hitting percentage, made him a crucial piece in the Grizzlies' formidable attack.
On the women’s side, Patrycja Sajda (Scarborough, ON) earned a spot on the OCAA Women’s Volleyball East Division All-Rookie Team. The first-year standout quickly made an impact, finishing the season with 125 kills, 29 service aces, and 88 digs, while averaging 2.27 kills per set Sajda's strong presence on both offense and defense was evident, as she ranked 18th in the league in service aces per set (0.53) and contributed valuable defensive play with 1.60 digs per set.
Rounding out the honors, Head Coach Reid Saxby was named OCAA Men's Volleyball East Division Coach of the Year after leading the Grizzlies to a dominant 17-1 record. Under his guidance, the team established itself as a powerhouse in the division, showcasing disciplined play and a deep roster of talent.
The Grizzlies’ volleyball teams continue to build on a tradition of excellence, with these latest accolades further cementing their reputation as one of the top programs in the province.
