Grizzlies dominate Phoenix, win 3-0
BARRIE, ON -- Georgian College's women's volleyball team dominated their match against Fleming College on October 28, 2023, winning in straight sets with scores of 25-14, 25-21, and 25-16. The match took place at Michele McConney Court, and both teams put on a competitive display.
In the first set, Fleming struggled to find their rhythm, failing to score a single point. Georgian capitalized on their opponent's errors and took an early lead. Abby Calvank of Fleming managed to score two kills, but it wasn't enough to close the gap. Georgian won the set convincingly with a score of 25-14.
The second set saw a more determined effort from Fleming. Taylor Penny led the team with nine kills, but Georgian's strong defense limited their scoring opportunities. Despite their efforts, Fleming fell short once again, losing the set 25-21.
In the final set, Georgian continued their dominance. Hailey Johansen (Penetanguishene, ON) stood out for Georgian, scoring eight kills and contributing to her team's victory. Fleming struggled to find consistency, committing several errors that allowed Georgian to maintain their lead. The set ended with a score of 25-16 in favor of Georgian, securing their 3-0 victory.
Grizzlies' Symantha Welsh (Sudbury, ON) showcased her setting abilities, tallying 21 assists. Ashlynn Harris (Orillia, ON) and Isabella Antonelli (Windsor, ON) were also key players, with three and seven kills respectively.
Overall, Georgian College's women's volleyball team displayed superior skills and teamwork, securing a well-deserved victory over Fleming College. Their strong defense and efficient attacking were key factors in their success.
