Successful season ends disappointingly for Grizzlies Indoor Soccer
Despite heading into Friday's OCAA Championship the hottest team in the province, Georgian's Women's Indoor Soccer team were unable to qualify for tomorrow's semi-final.
The Grizzlies went into the day having won eight consecutive games and their past two tournaments, outscoring opponents 19-1 in the process. They opened the day against Humber, a team they beat at the Georgian Invitational weeks earlier.
Unfortunately for the Barrie squad, the Hawks netted an early goal and went into a defensive shell. Numerous opportunities on the offensive end went unanswered, particularly in the second half, and the Grizzlies fell 1-0.
A match-up with Fanshawe followed, and in a must-win the Falcons nabbed a 2-0 first half lead they would not relinquish. The Grizzlies finished the year with a 1-1 draw against Conestoga, with Haley Nedelko scoring the late equalizer.
"Tactically we were strong, it was just a case of not executing like we have all year" said Head Coach Rick Morandini. Georgian will have an opportunity to build on this seasons successes, as many key cogs are set to return in 2016/17.
The Grizzlies were rewarded for their year at day's end, receiving plaques for coming away as the OCAA's Regional Champions and Central West Region Champions.
