Grizzlies women's basketball battle at Seneca Tournament
The shorthanded Grizzlies battled hard making it all the way to the consolation final
The Georgian Grizzlies women's basketball team competed at the Seneca Sting Classic in Toronto, ON this past Friday and Saturday.
The Grizzlies opened the tournament Friday afternoon against a tough Mohawk Mountaineers team. Georgian battled hard but couldn't slow down the Mohawk offence in an 89-59 final. Veteran guard Keshia Jacques was named player of the game for the Grizzlies.
Georgian drew the early game on Saturday morning as they faced the Lambton Lions. The Grizzlies were able to pull out a win in a thrilling 60-59 finish. Leah Bracken led the way for the Grizzlies and was named the team's player of the game.
The win put the Grizzlies into the consolation finals against a very familiar opponent, the George Brown Huskies.
The shorthanded Grizzlies ran out of steam in this match-up as the Huskies came out on top 73-41. Katrina Kerekesch was the player of the game for Georgian.
The Grizzlies have now met the Huskies four times this season. The Huskies have won both games in tournament play and the Grizzlies have won both match-ups in the OCAA regular season. The two teams will see each other once more when they meet on Feb. 7 in Toronto.
Georgian will continue their OCAA regular season schedule this upcoming weekend with an east division road swing against the St. Lawrence-Kingston Vikings and the Loyalist Lancers. The Grizzlies are in the thick of a playoff race and every game down the stretch will be important for those hopes.
