Mohawk wins Fall Classic; Georgian ends on high note
The Mohawk Moutaineers won the annual Georgian Fall Classic after defeating Niagara in the final. The Grizzlies finished their tournament with a win over Loyalist
It was a competitive two days as Georgian College played host to the Annual Women's Basketball Fall Classic tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
Eight teams from the both the OCAA's east and west divisions competed as part of their final tune-ups for the regular season.
The Mohawk Mountaineers were the big winners running the table with a perfect 3-0 record including an 84-78 victory in the championship game over the Niagara Knights. Mohawk's Sam Pocrnic was named Tournament MVP after an impressive performance. It was the fourth straight year Mohawk has won the Fall Classic Tournament.
After dropping two tight matches to open the tournament against Cambrian and George Brown, the Georgian Grizzlies pulled out a big comeback victory over the Loyalist Lancers 66-56 in their final game.
The Grizzlies will open their 2016 OCAA regular season when they host the same Loyalist Lancers on Friday, Oct. 28 at the Georgian Athletic Centre at 6 p.m.
