KLOETSTRA AND FORS EARN OCAA MEN’S VOLLEYBALL AWARDS
Georgian's Kaelan Kloetstra was named east division rookie of the year while Mike Fors was a second-team all-star
Two members of Georgian's men's volleyball team were recognized for their tremendous season's as part of the year end awards presented at the 2020 OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship hosted by Fleming College in Peterborough, ON.
The awards ceremony took place at the Championship Banquet which took place Wednesday night to kick off the tournament festivities.
Georgian's Kaelan Kloetstra earned the award for east division rookie of the year while also being named to the east division all-rookie team.
Kloetstra, took the league by storm in his first season as he led the Grizzlies in scoring with 247 points playing in 17 of Georgian's 18 contests. He also led Georgian with 187 kills and 44 aces while being tied for third in digs (89) and in blocks (16).
The London native finished ranked fifth overall in the OCAA averaging 4.4 points-per-set as well as being the top rookie scorer. Kloetstra also finished eighth in kills-per-set (3.34) and was fifth in total aces.
Third year veteran Mike Fors also walked away with some hardware as he was named an OCAA east division second-team all-star.
Fors, led the Grizzlies in blocks this season with 30, which also put him in 10th overall in the OCAA. He finished fourth on Georgian in kills with 68 and in points with 112 while playing in 16 games this year.
His leadership also helped the Grizzlies secure a spot at the provincial championships for the fourth year in a row.
The Grizzlies men's volleyball team play in the OCAA quarter-final to open the 2020 OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship against the Niagara Knights. This will be the third straight year the two teams have met in the quarter-finals with each team holding a win over the other.
The Grizzlies and Knights will face-off on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 8 p.m. at the Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre with the winner moving on to the semi-finals the following night.
