GRIZZLIES SUFFER FIRST LOSS WILL PLAY FOR BRONZE SATURDAY
The Grizzlies men's volleyball team lost for the first time this season, falling to Mohawk 3-0 in the OCAA semi-final.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's volleyball team took on the Mohawk Mountaineers in the semi-finals at the 2017 OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect on Friday night in Hamilton, ON.
It was a tough match for the Grizzlies as they battled not only the fifth ranked team in the nation but also a ruckus home crowd at Mohawk College.
The Mountaineers swept the Grizzlies in straight sets 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-11).
Adam Bielby (Barrie) had six kills while Trevor Recalla (Haileybury) had four kills and one block.
Darien Haynes (Barrie) was named player of the game for Georgian.
It was the first loss of the season for the Grizzlies as they were previously 19-0 in conference play.
Ironically, Georgian's last loss came to the same Mohawk Mountaineers over a calendar year ago on Feb. 20, 2016 in an OCAA crossover playoff game.
The Grizzlies will still be looking to make history on Saturday when they face the Fanshawe Falcons in the bronze medal game of the OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship at 2 p.m.
Georgian has never previously won a medal in men's volleyball.
