Grizzlies men's indoor soccer win their tournament
The Grizzlies defeated Seneca 3-1 in the finals to win the Georgian Invitational on Friday in Bradford.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's indoor soccer team hosted their annual invitational tournament on Friday at the Bradford Sportsdome in Bradford, ON.
There wasn't much separating the men's teams early in the round robin at the tournament, but when they needed it, the Grizzlies came up big.
After tying their first two matches 1-1 to Seneca and 0-0 against Centennial, the Grizzlies needed a win to get into the finals.
Georgian's offence exploded against the Sault Cougars with two goals from Oleksandr Khvesyk (Ukraine) and single goals from Casey Collis (Newmarket), Chris Quental (Beeton), Cesar Regalado (Alliston), Stefan Robinson (Oakville), Philip Shin (North York) and Alex Trifu (Barrie) for an 8-0 win.
That win put the Grizzlies in first place and a rematch against the Seneca Sting in the finals.
Georgian kept the momentum going as Linas Katinas (Vaughan) scored his second goal against Seneca on the day to open the scoring seven minutes in. Kyle Thompson (Barrie) and Mortaza Ahmadzai (Barrie) added to more goals and the Grizzlies pulled away with a 3-1 win and a tournament victory.
This was the final tune up for the Grizzlies prior to competing at the OCAA Regionals which will take place on Monday, Mar. 6 hosted by Fanshawe College.
