MEN'S BASKETBALL EARN GUTSY WIN OVER VIKINGS
Damon Green had a solid game to help lead the Grizzlies to a 70-67 victory over the St. Lawrence Vikings on Saturday afternoon in Barrie.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team hosted the St. Lawrence Vikings on Saturday afternoon at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.
It was a tight and tense match in the second half of the men's game that came down to the wire but the Grizzlies were able to pull out a gutsy win 70-67.
Samuel Odzenma (Mississauga) led the Grizzlies in scoring with 17 points while Nikyle Williams-Mcintosh (Newmarket) was solid with a 13-point effort.
Teammate Damon Green (Newmarket) played an effective game on both ends of the court including some clutch three-pointers as part of a nine-point game.
"I thought we were locked in on defence for 75 minutes this weekend and it was the difference with not having Tyler (Vanessen)," said Grizzlies Head Coach Matt Coulson. "Our bench players, in particular Damon Green, stepped up big time for us today."
The win moves the Grizzlies record to 8-5 on the season and they continue to sit in fourth place in the OCAA east division standings.
The Grizzlies will continue their four-game home stand when they host the Durham Lords on Friday, Jan. 24 at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
The women's game gets underway at 6 p.m. followed by the men's game at 8 p.m.
Tickets for all Grizzlies home games are available at the doors for $5 or if you can't be in attendance you can watch the game online at GeorgianGrizzlies.ca/WatchLive.
