MEN'S BASKETBALL WIN OVERTIME THRILLER OVER EAGLES
Malcolm Liddell had a season high 21 points in an overtime thriller defeating the Eagles 89-86.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team hosted the University of Toronto-Mississauga Eagles on Wednesday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.
It was a thrilling game that was back and forth all the way.
The game featured eight lead changes and was tied 12 times including in the final seconds of the fourth quarter when the Eagles hit a three-pointer to send the game to overtime tied 74-74.
The tight play continued in overtime but the Grizzlies were able to pull ahead late after a three-pointer by Nikyle Williams-Mcintosh (Newmarket) followed by some clutch free throws by Damian Wilson (Brampton) and Kevonte Anderson (Innisfil) to seal a 89-86 overtime win for Georgian.
Four Grizzlies starters hit double-digits in points including Williams-McIntosh with 15 points.
Tyler Vanessen (Whitby) had a team-high 24 points along with 13 rebounds for his sixth straight double-double. Samuel Odzenma (Mississauga) recorded 17 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Rookie Malcolm Liddell (Brampton) had an excellent game with a season-high 21 point game.
The win snaps a two-game losing skid for the Grizzlies to help improve their season record to 5-3 as they now sit in fourth in the OCAA east division standings.
The Grizzlies will wrap up their first half of the season with games on the road.
The men's team will face the Fleming Knights this Saturday in Peterborough before they play their final game of the first half next Wednesday, Nov. 27 when they travel to take on the Centennial Colts.
The Grizzlies will play their next home game in the New Year when they host the Fleming Knights on Friday, Jan. 10.
