Grizzlies men's basketball reach semis of George Brown tournament
Georgian played strong coming up just short in the semi-final to Mohawk
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team took part in the George Brown Invitational Tournament this past weekend in Toronto, ON.
It was a great start for the Grizzlies as they put together an impressive performance to open the tournament against the Durham Lords.
Georgian were able to hit some clutch shots to come away with an 87-79 victory over their east division rivals.
Anthony Meggo had a team high 26 points in the victory while Tyler Vanessen had 18 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
On Saturday, the Grizzlies faced the Mohawk Mountaineers in the tournament semi-finals but it was the Hamilton team that came out on top. Georgian were not able to slow down the Mohawk offence as they fell 104-73.
Tyler Vanessen was strong again scoring a team high 24 points.
The Grizzlies will be looking to hit the ground running in the second half of the OCAA regular season. Georgian will be going on the road to start with a pair of big games this weekend against the St. Lawrence-Kingston Vikings and the Loyalist Lancers, two teams they are chasing in the standings.
Georgian currently sits in eighth in the OCAA east division standings but are only one game back of a playoff berth.
