GRIZZLIES GOLF TEAMS BEGIN PLAY AT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Georgian's Addison Wallwin is in a tie for 2nd overall and along with teammate Emilie Tyndall the women's team sits in 2nd after day one
The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's golf teams opened up play at the 2017 PING CCAA Golf National Championships on Tuesday at the Royal Ashburn Golf Club in Oshawa, ON.
Last year's reigning national champion women's team from Georgian had an excellent start to their tournament.
Addison Wallwin (Barrie) finished the day with a round of 84 to sit just two strokes back of the leader in a tie for second place. Wallwin was also the individual winner at last year's championship.
Teammate Emilie Tyndall (Kirkland, QC) also had a strong start with a round of 87 and she currently sits in a tie for sixth place overall. Combined the women's team sit in second place and are just three strokes behind the leading team from the University of the Fraser Valley.
On the men's side Grizzlies veteran Matt Lemay (Waterloo) was Georgian's top finisher as he sits in a tie for 19th overall following a round of 80. Lemay has won the bronze medal at this event the previous two years.
Brady Zordan (Midhurst) is one stroke behind Lemay and sits tied for 26th, Jeff Ash (Barrie) is tied for 28th, Jonah Vidito (Kentville) is tied for 35th and Josh Lynch (Burlington) is in 57th after round one.
The Grizzlies men's team will have some ground to make up in the team standings as they sit in ninth place with a combined score of 326.
Georgian will have lots of opportunity to move up in the standings as for the first time the PING CCAA Golf National Championships is a four round, 72 hole event. Play resumes on Wednesday morning with the third round on Thursday and the fourth and final round taking place on Friday.
