BADMINTON OPENS SEASON AT HUMBER CUP
Kiersten Hillman and the Georgian Grizzlies badminton team took part in the Humber Cup this past weekend in Etobicoke.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's badminton team opened their 2019-20 OCAA season this past weekend at the Humber Cup in Etobicoke.
The Grizzlies had a nice start to the campaign at a very competitive tournament.
Jessica Maher (Tottenham) had a nice start to the season. Last year she finished in fourth place at the provincial championships and will be looking to build on that strong performance.
At the Humber Cup she had a strong run in a number of disciplines. She made it to the quarter-finals of the women's singles bracket while also making it to the third round of the mixed doubles division with teammate Preyal Patel (India).
Maher also earned a trip all the way to the semi-finals of women's doubles with teammate Kiersten Hillman (Bracebridge).
Also in the mixed doubles division, Hillman partnered with Zheyi Bei (China) and the two made it to the third round before being eliminated.
The Grizzlies will next be in action on Nov. 9-10 when they take part in the University of Toronto-Mississauga Invitational.
Georgian College will host the 2020 OCAA East Regional Championship on Jan. 31 & Feb. 1, 2020 at the Athletic Centre on the Barrie campus. The top badminton players from the OCAA east division will be on hand vying for a spot at the provincial championships.
