GRIZZLIES BADMINTON TEAM MAKE STRIDES AT FIRST EVENT OF NEW YEAR
Eric Kern returned to the Grizzlies fold this past weekend and was solid in singles and doubles play at the Centennial Invitational
The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's badminton team travelled to compete in the Centennial Invitational this past weekend in Toronto, ON.
The team has been working hard all season and that progress and growth was on full display as the team builds towards the important second half of their season.
Michelle Kozlowskyj (Garson) had a strong showing at the tournament making it all the way to the semi-finals of the women's singles before falling to Anh Hoang from George Brown College 21-19, 21-12.
Kozlowskyj also made it to the semi-finals of the women's doubles competition with teammate Courtney Brewer (Manitouwadge) and the semi-finals of the mixed doubles competition with Ethan Zhao (China).
Brewer also had a solid tournament as she won the women's singles consolation round.
Georgian veteran Eric Kern (Desbarats) returned to competition and made it to the quarter-finals of the men's singles competition and the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles with Brewer.
Kern also reunited with Ethan Zhao to reform last year's OCAA bronze medal winning team. The duo had a good run making it to the quarter-finals of the men's doubles competition before then making it to the consolation finals where they lost in a tight match.
The Grizzlies will play in their final tune-up tournament when they take part in the St. Clair Invitational on Jan. 19-21 in Windsor, ON.
They will then compete at the OCAA East Regionals which will be hosted by Centennial College on Feb. 2-3, 2018. The event will determine who will move on to the provincial championships.
