The 2016 Georgian 3 Pitch Finals were held on Wednesday August 3rd with the top four teams in regular season play meeting in the semi-finals and winners advancing to the championship game.
The first semi-final saw #1 ranked No Glove No Love take on #4 Two Girls One Bat in a game that came right down to the wire. No Glove looked to be in trouble, trailing 5-1 going into the bottom of the 4th inning, but a huge seven run inning gave them and 8-5 lead. Two Girls responded with two runs in the 5th, but No Glove scored two runs in the 6th to hold a 10-7 lead heading into the 7th. No Glove got the first two batters out, but then gave up four runs to trail 11-10 going into their last at bat. However, three consecutive doubles plated two runs to give No Glove a walk –off 12-11 win and a spot in the finals.
The second semi-final had the #2 Louisville Tuggers taking on #3 Blue Balls and the game quickly turned into a slugfest. After a scoreless first inning, Blue Balls scored two runs in the second and 10 runs in third to put pressure on Louisville. Not to be outdone, Louisville scored 6 and 7 runs in those innings to hold a 13-12 lead heading into the 4th. Louisville stretched that lead to 17-14 heading into the 6th inning, but Blue Balls were not done. With two outs, Blue Balls went on a tear to score 7 runs and take a 21-17 lead, then scored five in the top of the 7th to go up 26-17. Louisville scored four in the bottom of the 7th, but it wasn't enough, and Blue Balls emerged with a 26-21 upset win – and a berth in the final.
The final looked as though it would be a rout for top rated No Glove. Through four innings, No Glove played stellar defense and scored runs in each of their at bats to hold an 8-1 lead going into the 5th.
Cue the comeback kids though.
As they did in the semi, Blue Balls found their batting stroke and scored six runs in the 5th to make the score 8-7. They then added three in the 6th and five in the 7th. Meanwhile, No Glove had no answer and were held scoreless in the 5th and 6th. Heading into their last at bats in the 7th, No Glove found that a seven run lead had turned into a seven run deficit. It proved too much as they could only muster one run in the 7th, giving Blue Balls and huge 15-9 comeback win – and the 2016 Georgian 3 Pitch championship!
