MEN'S BASKETBALL IMPRESS IN WIN OVER DURHAM
Jaan Bukhari and the Grizzlies defeated the Durham Lords 69-63 in a great game on Wednesday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team played their home opener for the 2018-19 OCAA regular season on Wednesday night when they hosted the Durham Lords at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.
The Grizzlies got off to a great start before allowing the Lords to crawl back and take the lead going into halftime 32-31.
Georgian regrouped at halftime and put together a solid team effort in the second half to win the game 69-63 to earn their first win of the season.
Anthony Meggo (Whitby) played a solid game scoring a game-high 18 points while also leading the team with 38 minutes.
Grizzlies' teammate Daniel Martyn (Barrie) played a tough game, scoring 17 points while Tyler Vanessen (Whitby) had 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds in the win.
The Grizzlies win snapped a five-game losing streak to the Lords as both teams now sit with a 1-1 record on the season.
Georgian will be back in action this coming Saturday when the men's and women's teams host the Loyalist Lancers. Special start time of 4 p.m. for the women's game followed by the men's at 6 p.m.
The Grizzlies will be welcoming local youth basketball players to the game on Barrie Royals Day. Anyone wearing Barrie Royals gear will receive free admission to the game with tickets available to the public at the doors for $5.
