WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL CLINCH THIRD WITH BIG WIN OVER LOYALIST
The Grizzlies had a big win Sunday defeating Loyalist, will face Cambrian in playoffs next Sunday
The Georgian Grizzlies women's volleyball team closed out their regular season on Sunday afternoon when they travelled to face the Loyalist Lancers.
It was a statement game for the Grizzlies who won a tight game the last time the two teams met in the first half of the season.
Georgian came out and were very impressive scoring the win in three straight sets 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-18).
Ashley Mavreas (Barrie) was incredible in the game as she recorded a team high 17 kills. Quinn McGregor (Lindsay) had 13 points (11 kills, 2 aces) while Katharyn Avery had another solid effort with 35 assists.
The win guarantees the Grizzlies a third place finish in the OCAA east division standings with a 13-5 record.
Georgian will host the sixth seed from the OCAA west division, the Cambrian Golden Shield (9-9) in a crossover playoff game on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
The Grizzlies have won four in a row and have only lost one set during this current streak. Cambrian made a strong push at the end of the season winning five straight to earn their playoff position which should set up a good match-up.
The winner of the playoff game will advance to the OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect Feb. 24-26 hosted by St. Clair College in Windsor, ON.
