WOMEN'S INDOOR SOCCER WINS GEORGIAN INVITATIONAL
The Grizzlies ran the table going 4-0 to win the annual Georgian Invitational on Friday at the Bradford Sports Dome in Bradford, ON.
The Georgian Grizzlies women's indoor soccer team hosted the annual Georgian Invitational Tournament on Friday at the Bradford Sports Dome in Bradford.
It was a big day for the team.
Georgian kicked off their tournament with a solid 1-0 win over the St. Lawrence-Cornwall Sharks on a goal from Tanya Wroblewski (Barrie).
They then followed that with an impressive 2-0 win over the Sault Cougars thanks to goals from Haley Nedelko (Lynden) and Meagan Roth (Fort Erie).
In their final game of the round robin Georgian had a massive offensive breakout beating the Lakehead-Orillia Thunderwolves 8-0. Nedelko and Roth both scored their second goals of the day along with Courtney Hodgkinson (Orillia) who had two goals in the game.
They also had goals from Christy Karvaratzis (Barrie), Amber Coates-Worthington (Peterborough), Kayleigh Royer (Sarnia) and Madison Wilson (Gravenhurst).
The Grizzlies finished in first place following the round robin to qualify for the finals and a rematch against the Sault Cougars.
This time the Cougars got the lead and held it for the majority of the contest. Midway through the second half Haley Nedelko scored her third goal of the day to get the Grizzlies on the board. Minutes later it was Tanya Wroblewski scoring her second of the day to give Georgian the lead and eventually a 2-1 victory to win the tournament.
The women's team will now anxiously prepare for the OCAA regionals which take place on Wednesday, Mar. 7 hosted by Seneca College where they will be competing to earn a spot at the OCAA Championships.
