The Georgian Grizzlies Women's Indoor Soccer team qualified for the OCAA Championship on Monday thanks to a perfect 4-0 showing at the Regional Tournament.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that Georgian has qualified for the Provincial Championship, and it may be the strongest outfit they have sent thus far.
Cassandra McCormick netted a pair of goals, including the game winner with just over two minutes remaining, in the Grizzlies opening win over defending champion St. Clair. The Saints figured to be among Georgian's toughest competition, and getting out of the gate fast against a strong team proved crucial.
Jenni Richardson was the story in Georgian's second win of the day, finishing with a hat trick in a 4-0 victory over St. Lawrence. Kristin Bartoski had a first half goal and Suzanne Crawley netted another in the second in a 2-0 win over George Brown, and the Grizzlies controlled play from the jump in their final 4-0 win over Lakehead. Haley Nedelko, Tanya Wroblewski, Jenni Richardson and Susanna Rodrigues all scored.
"Our defence was strong all day, and we capitalized on our opponents mistakes" said Eden Young, who was solid on the back-end.
Georgian finishes the tournament with twelve goals for and just one against. Over their past eight games, the Grizzlies goal differential is now 19-1.
Provincial's are scheduled for March 18-19 at Redeemer College.
