WOMEN'S BASKETBALL RUN OUT OF STEAM IN HOME OPENER
Cassidy Warren-Timpano and the Georgian Grizzlies women's basketball team fell to the Durham Lords 79-60 on Wednesday
The Georgian Grizzlies women's basketball team played their home opener for the 2018-19 OCAA regular season on Wednesday night when they hosted the Durham Lords at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.
Georgian battled hard with a tough divisional opponent in the Lords.
The two teams went back and forth in the first half leading to a 34-34 tie at halftime.
In the second half the Lords were able to pull away to take the game 79-60 over the Grizzlies.
Georgian's Mckenzie Howlett (Barrie) had a tremendous game scoring a team-high 15 points while teammate Kelsey Dunkeld (Barrie) had a gritty effort scoring 13 points while also registering a team-high seven rebounds.
The Grizzlies now sit at 0-2 to start the season.
Georgian will be back in action this coming Saturday when the men's and women's teams host the Loyalist Lancers. Special start time of 4 p.m. for the women's game followed by the men's at 6 p.m.
The Grizzlies will be welcoming local youth basketball players to the game on Barrie Royals Day. Anyone wearing Barrie Royals gear will receive free admission to the game with tickets available to the public at the doors for $5.
