GRIZZLIES IMPRESSIVE IN HOME VICTORY
BARRIE, ON – The Georgian Grizzlies remained undefeated at home with an impressive 56-14 win over the Algonquin Wolves on a beautiful fall day at J.C. Massie Field. The Georgian Grizzlies, Algonquin Wolves, and a supportive crowd, reflected on the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation by honouring the land we were on, reflecting on the 94 calls to action and shared a moment of silence to remember those children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.
The Grizzlies took the opening kick-off and drove down the field in impressive fashion with Nick O'Brien touching the ball down for the opening score of the game. Kade Rennie (Collingwood, ON) converted to give Georgian an early 7-0 lead.
Algonquin quickly responded when Luke Flores intercepted a Grizzly pass and ran 50 metres for the try. Ishan Duggal's convert tied the game.
Georgian responded with three consecutive scores before Algonquin stopped the Grizzly run with a try and a convert as the half concluded. Georgian led 26-14 at the half.
The Grizzlies imposed their will in the second half, scoring six tries, including three by Matt Turco (Stouffville, ON) who entered the game as a substitute at half-time.
Rylan Moulton (Barrie, ON) with two tries, and Parker England (Barrie, ON), Ethan Phillips (Minesing, ON) , Jack Ahern (Minesing, ON) and James Robb-Kennedy (Barrie, ON) were the other Grizzlies to touch the ball down. Rennie added 3 converts.
Georgian's record improves to 2-1 and will head on the road for their next contest against the Humber Hawks on Saturday, October 14th.
