GRIZZLIES WIN BROWN BEAR TROPHY AND CLINCH FIRST IN STANDINGS
Georgian defeated Sheridan 29-17 in the first ever Battle of the Bears on Sunday at J.C. Massie Field.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's rugby team faced the Sheridan Bruins in the first annual "Battle of the Bears" rivalry game on Sunday afternoon at J.C. Massie Field in Barrie.
Not only were the two teams playing for the inaugural Brown Bear Trophy but with both Georgian and Sheridan having perfect 5-0 records coming into the game, the regular season finale would determine who finished first in the OCAA west division standings.
The two teams played an incredibly competitive match trading scores back and forth with four lead changes in the first half.
In the second half both the Grizzlies and Bruins tightened up defensively as the intensity level went way up. Georgian scored the only points of the half on a try by Jordan Carppi (Lindsay) which sealed a 29-17 win for the Grizzlies.
The other Georgian tries in the game were scored by Edwin Addai Sarfo (Bradford), his brother Kirk Addai Sarfo (Bradford), Nana Ntim (Bradford) and Nathaniel Brown (Everett).
The win gives the Grizzlies a perfect regular season at 6-0 and they clinch first in the OCAA west division. This also guarantees Georgian a bye to the OCAA semi-finals which they will host on a yet to be determined date and time on the Nov. 4th/5th weekend.
This is the second straight year that Georgian has gone undefeated in the regular season and they have not lost a regular season game since Oct. 1, 2015, a stretch of 15 games.
