MEN'S BASKETBALL RECLAIM LEAD LATE TO DEFEAT THUNDER
Samuel Odzenma and the Grizzlies had a solid late opener capped off by a late three-pointer to claim the win over Algonquin on Friday.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team played their home opener of their 2019-20 OCAA regular season when they hosted the Algonquin Thunder on Friday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.
The Grizzlies men's team got off to an incredible start as they shot 68.8% from the field in the second quarter and led the game 48-33 at half time.
In the second half the Thunder chipped away at the Grizzlies lead and eventually were able to overtake Georgian and hold a narrow two point lead in the game's final moments.
The Grizzlies wouldn't be denied as veteran Nikyle Williams-Mcintosh (Newmarket) hit a clutch three-pointer with just 3.4 seconds left in the game to seal a 76-75 victory for Georgian as part of a game-high 20 point effort.
Teammate Tyler Vanessen (Whitby) was also strong with a double-double scoring 17 points and posting a team-high 14 rebounds.
The win moves the Grizzlies record to 3-1 on the season as they currently sit in a three-way tie for first in the OCAA east division standings.
Georgian's men's team will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 2 when they face the La Cite Coyotes at 1 p.m.
Both the men's and women's teams will play be back in action next Friday, Nov. 8 when they host the Seneca Sting at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
