MEN'S BASKETBALL RUN INTO TOUGH GEORGE BROWN TEAM
The Grizzlies played their final regular season home game on Wednesday where they fell 124-72 to the Huskies.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team hosted their final game of the regular season on Wednesday night when they hosted the George Brown Huskies at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
It was a tough night for the Grizzlies.
Georgian came out to a great start and led after the opening quarter 23-21.
From there the Huskies were able to take over as they rolled on the Grizzlies to win the match 124-72.
Despite the loss, Tyler Vanessen (Whitby) had a strong game for the Grizzlies scoring a team-high 20 points. Teammate Nikyle Williams-McIntosh (Newmarket) had 13 points from off the bench in another solid effort.
The loss drops the Grizzlies record to 9-10 on the season and they move to sixth place in the OCAA east division standings. With one game remaining on the calendar, the Grizzlies still have the opportunity to get to as high as fourth in the east.
Prior to each game the Grizzlies recognized their graduating veterans with David Marshall (Alliston), Sean Dutton (Orillia), Daniel Martyn (Barrie), Anthony Meggo (Whitby) and Tyler Vanessen each being celebrated in a pre-game ceremony.
The Grizzlies wrap up their regular season schedule this Saturday when they travel to face the Centennial Colts in Scarborough.
Georgian College will host the 2019 belairdirect OCAA Men's Basketball Championship from Feb. 28 to Mar. 2 at the Georgian Athletic Centre on the Barrie campus.
The Grizzlies men's team will play their first game of the tournament on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. against a to be determined opponent.
