STING PULL AWAY FROM GRIZZLIES MEN'S BASKETBALL IN FOURTH
Daniel Martyn and the Grizzlies had a solid effort against the east's top team, but the Sting outscored the Grizzlies in the fourth.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team hosted the Seneca Sting on Friday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.
Facing the OCAA east division's top placed team, the Grizzlies put up a good fight for the first three quarters of the game.
The fourth quarter was a different story as the reigning national champion Sting outscored the Grizzlies 27-13 in the game's final frame to win the match 92-69.
Anthony Meggo (Whitby) led the Grizzlies in scoring with 19 points while teammates Tyler Vanessen (Whitby) had 16 points and Jaan Buhkari (Newmarket) scored 14.
The loss drops the Grizzlies record to 8-9 on the season and they sit in a tie for fifth place with the Algonquin Thunder.
Georgian's men's team will be back in action this Sunday, Feb. 10 when they travel to face the Candaore Panthers in North Bay.
Both the Grizzlies men's and women's teams will play their final home regular season games next Wednesday, Feb. 13 when they host the George Brown Huskies.
The women's game gets underway at 6 p.m. followed by the men's game at 8 p.m. Tickets for the double-header are available at the doors for $5 each.
Prior to the game there will be a special ceremony recognizing our graduating student-athletes.
