MEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEAT VIKINGS IN OVERTIME
Tyler Vanessen and the Grizzlies won a thriller, defeating the St. Lawrence Vikings 83-79 in overtime on Friday night in Barrie.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team played their final home game of the first half of the season against the St. Lawrence Vikings on Friday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
The game was a thriller.
The two teams battled back and forth with the Vikings tying the game in the final seconds to send the match to overtime.
In overtime it was the Grizzlies who were able to hit some clutch shots from Tyler Vanessen (Whitby) and Anthony Meggo (Whitby) to pull away for an 83-79 victory.
Vanessen once again had a strong game for Georgian, recording his fourth straight double-double with 18 points and 18 rebounds.
The former OCAA all-star currently sits 12th in league scoring averaging 20.1 points-per-game and is sixth in rebounds averaging 10.0 per game.
Rookie Jaan Bukhari (Newmarket) had a huge game scoring a career-high 27 points to lead the team.
Georgian finishes the first half of the season with a 5-5 record and sit in sixth place in the OCAA east division standings.
The Grizzlies will host their next home game on Saturday, Jan. 19th when they host the Fleming Knights at 3 p.m.
