CONNOR LARONDE LEADS GRIZZLIES TO BIG WIN OVER PANTHERS
Connor Laronde had a team high 28 points to lead the Grizzlies to their third win in their last four games defeating Canadore 88-80.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team faced a tough divisional opponent in the Canadore Panthers on Saturday afternoon at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
The Grizzlies got off to a tough start finding themselves down by as much as 11 points in the first quarter.
Georgian rebounded thanks to the strong play of Connor Laronde (Barrie) who led the team with a team-high 28 points to earn the Grizzlies a big 88-80 victory.
Laronde shot an incredible 72.2% from the field and leads the Grizzlies in scoring this season, averaging 18.9 points-per-game, putting him in the top ten amongst all OCAA scorers.
Anthony Meggo (Whitby) was also strong with a 21 point effort while Tyler Vanessen (Whitby) led the team with 13 rebounds.
With five games left to play in the regular season, the Grizzlies have themselves in a good spot with a 9-6 record as they sit in fifth place in the OCAA east division standings.
All of Georgian's final five opponents are in playoff positions making for an important stretch drive for the team.
The Grizzlies will face one of the team's they are trying to catch in the standings, the Durham Lords (11-5, 3rd place) on Tuesday, Feb. 6 on the road.
Georgian will wrap up an important week when they host the Loyalist Lancers (7-8, 7th place) next Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Georgian Athletic Centre. Tickets for the game are available at the door for $5 with tip-off scheduled for 3 p.m.
