MEN'S BASKETBALL RUN INTO WALL IN STING
Strong defence shut down the Grizzlies on Friday night at the Athletic Centre as Seneca defeated Georgian 86-71.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team hosted the visiting Seneca Sting on Friday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
The Sting proved to be tough opponents on the night.
Last year's OCAA east division defensive player of the year Khalil Miller (Scarborough) led the Sting defence which limited the Grizzlies to shooting just 35.1% in the game. Miller had big game matching the team high in points with 18 while leading his team in rebounds with 14 and in blocks with five.
Georgian's men's team pulled close on a couple of occasions but couldn't get over the hump as they fell 86-71.
Anthony Meggo (Whitby) led the Grizzlies in scoring with 21 while teammate Johnathan Edwards (Brampton) had an 18 point effort.
Local talent Daniel Martyn (Barrie) had his best game of the young season scoring 17 points while shooting over 63%.
Georgian will head out on the road next weekend for an important pair of games against the St. Lawrence Vikings and Loyalist Lancers.
The Grizzlies will play their next home game on Tuesday, Nov. 7 when they face the Durham Lords at 8 p.m. at the Georgian Athletic Centre. Tickets are available at the door for the game for $5.
