GRIZZLIES MEN’S BASKETBALL COMPLETE OPENING WEEKEND SWEEP
Jonathan Edwards had a game high 23 points as they defeated La Cite 78-52 to move to 2-0 on the season.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team played their second contest in as many days when they hosted the La Cite Coyotes on Saturday afternoon at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
After winning a tight, physical match-up against Algonquin the night before, the Grizzlies took a while to get their energy up against the Coyotes.
Georgian came out of the gate flat, unable to find their shooting touch and trailed at halftime 30-28.
The second half was a different story. Georgian came out fast and furious outscoring the Coyotes 50-22 in the half to win the game convincingly 78-52.
The Grizzlies shot nearly 50% in the second half and were an incredible 62.5% shooting from 3-point range in the last two quarters.
Georgian was led by third-year veteran Johnathan Edwards (Brampton) who had a game high 23 points.
Anthony Meggo (Whitby) was a force once again for the Grizzlies scoring 18 points while Connor Laronde (Barrie) had his first double-double of the season scoring 10 points and picking up 10 rebounds.
With two wins on opening weekend, the Grizzlies are out to a great start to their OCAA regular season as they sit atop the east division standings.
The Grizzlies will be back in action next Friday night, Oct. 27 when they host the Seneca Sting at the Georgian Athletic Centre at 8 p.m. Students can pick up FREE tickets in advance at the Georgian Athletic Centre. Tickets are $5 at the door.
