Grizziles can't recover from tough start
Georgian started slow and mounted a comeback that fell short losing 74-61 to the Colts on Friday
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team headed to Toronto, ON Friday night to take on the Centennial Colts.
It was not a good start for the Grizzlies as they opened the game by having the Colts go on a 31-9 run. Georgian fought back in the fourth quarter drawing within eight points but Centennial pulled away at the end defeating the Grizzlies 74-61.
Tyler Vanessen continued his impressive season as he scored 27 points and added 12 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season. The Whitby, ON native has recorded a double-double in five of his last six games while averaging 22.7 points-per-game during that stretch.
Teammates Anthony Meggo (Whitby) scored 14 points while Connor Laronde (Barrie) had 10 in the loss.
The Grizzlies find themselves in a tough spot as they come down the stretch of the regular season. With three games remaining they sit in eighth place in the OCAA east division, two spots out of the sixth and final playoff spot.
Georgian (7-10) has the same number of wins as sixth placed Loyalist (7-8) and seventh placed Durham (7-8) but both teams hold two games in hand on the Grizzlies. Fifth place St. Lawrence-Kingston (8-8) is still within reach but the Grizzlies will need to pull together some wins.
The team will wrap up its schedule by travelling to George Brown (14-1) on Feb. 7, host Durham (7-8) on Feb. 14 and will finish the regular season with a trip to face Canadore (6-11) on Feb. 17.
