Grizzlies battle back for big win over Algonquin
Georgian erased an early nine point deficit to come back for a big 77-71 victory over the Thunder on Saturday afternoon
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team hosted their first home game of the semester against the visiting Algonquin Thunder on Saturday afternoon at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
It was a tough start for Georgian as they found themselves trailing by nine after the first quarter. The Grizzlies moved forward in the second quarter, working hard to tie the game by halftime.
The rest of the game was tight but it was the Grizzlies who pulled out the intense game in the end 77-71.
Tyler Vanessen had a big game for Georgian as he scored a game-high 24 points while adding 10 rebounds for a double-double. Teammate David Khayipangi provided a spark while shooting 70% in a 14 point effort.
The win was important for the Grizzlies as they move to 6-7 on the season in a crowded OCAA east division playoff race.
Georgian's men's team will be looking for another big effort on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 22) as they host the La Cite Coyotes at 1 p.m. at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
