Second quarter comes back to bite Grizzlies men's basketball
Georgian's Anthony Meggo had 16 points but it wasn't enough as the Grizzlies fell 76-65 to the Lancers
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team played their first home game of the 2016/17 OCAA regular season against the Loyalist Lancers on Friday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
The game between the two division rivals was played at a very high pace and came down to the wire.
Georgian closed the gap late to get within six points but the Lancers were able to hold on for a 76-65 win.
In the end it was the second quarter that killed the Grizzlies as they were outscored 23-12 and they were unable to eliminate that deficit the rest of the way.
Connor Laronde battled hard for Georgian, never leaving the court and scoring a game-high 25 points while also adding seven rebounds and three assists.
Anthony Meggo was impressive with 16 points and Tyler Vanessen had 14 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double.
The Grizzlies won't have long to lick their wounds as they will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they host the St. Lawrence – Kingston Vikings at the Georgian Athletic Centre at 3 p.m.
