It was the kind of opening the Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team was looking for as they started their season on the road in Peterborough to take on the Fleming Knights on Saturday.
The Grizzlies played a strong defensive first half and were able to hold on the rest of the way to pick up their first win of the season 86-82 over the Knights.
Tyler Vanessen led the way for the Grizzlies scoring a team high 27 points while also picking up seven rebounds. He was also had some clutch shooting, going 3-for-5 from beyond the three-point line.
Shams Yar Adua had a big second half picking up 18 of his 20 points in the second half while Anthony Meggo had 15 points in nearly 23 minutes of action.
Next up for the Grizzlies will be their home opener as they host the Loyalist Lancers on Friday, Oct. 28 at 8 p.m. at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
