TYNDALL WINS GOLD & GEORGIAN GOLF TEAMS WIN SILVER AT PROVINCIALS
Georgian's Emilie Tyndall won gold in the women's individual competition and helped lead her team to silver at the OCAA Golf Championships
The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's golf teams wrapped up play at the 2017 OCAA Golf Championships on Wednesday at the Crimson Ridge Golf Course in Sault Ste. Marie, ON.
Emilie Tyndall (Kirkland, QC) capped off an incredible championship posting the lowest score in each of the three rounds to win the individual women's gold medal. On the final hole of the tournament, Tyndall shot even on the par-five 18th to reclaim her tournament lead and win the gold medal by two strokes over Humber's Sheila McKeen, who won silver.
This is the second time Tyndall has won an individual medal at the OCAA Championships having earned a silver medal back in 2015.
Addison Wallwin (Barrie) narrowly missed out on repeating as a medalist at the event as she finished in fourth overall. Teammate Danielle Forhan (Barrie) had her best round of the tournament on Wednesday and finished in ninth place.
The women's team combined to win the silver medal at the event finishing just eight strokes behind the Humber Hawks who won gold.
It is the seventh consecutive year the Grizzlies women's team has earned a medal at the OCAA Championships as they have won gold twice, silver three times and bronze twice during that span.
In addition Tyndall and Wallwin were named to the OCAA All-Ontario team.
The Grizzlies men's team had their best combined round of the tournament on the final day shooting a combined score of 314. After being in fourth place to start the day, Georgian's big round helped them leap into second place by the championships end to earn a silver medal.
It's the second straight year the Grizzlies have earned the silver medal at the event and it's the ninth consecutive year the Georgian's men's team has earned a medal with seven silver and two bronze medals during that stretch.
Georgian had four golfers place in the top 20 at the event with Matt Lemay (Waterloo) finishing in a tie for eighth, Brady Zordan (Midhurst) finishing 10th, Jeff Ash (Barrie) tied for 12th, Josh Lynch (Burlington) tied for 18th and Jonah Vidito (Kentville) finishing tied for 32nd overall.
With their silver medal winning performances the Grizzlies men's and women's golf teams have qualified to take part in the 2017 PING CCAA Golf National Championships which takes place from Oct. 16-20 at the Royal Ashburn Golf Club in Whitby, ON.
The Grizzlies are the defending women's national champions while Georgian's Addison Wallwin is the defending individual champion at the event and Matt Lemay has won bronze at the event in each of the previous two years.
