GRIZZLIES GOLFERS BATTLE TOUGH WIND TO OPEN PROVINCIALS
Georgian's Emilie Tyndall is leading after round one of the OCAA Golf Championships in Sault Ste. Marie, ON
The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's golf teams played their opening rounds of the 2017 OCAA Golf Championships on Monday at the Crimson Ridge Golf Club in Sault Ste. Marie, ON.
The course posed a challenge for the field of nearly 70 men's and women's collegiate golfers who battled windy conditions throughout the first day of competition.
Georgian's Emilie Tyndall (Kirkland, QC) finished the first day on top of the leaderboard on the women's side with a round of 79. Last year's CCAA National individual champion Addison Wallwin (Barrie) finished day one with a round of 84 to sit in fifth place while teammate Danielle Forhan (Barrie) currently sits in ninth.
The women's team finished just three strokes behind the team from Humber College who are in first place after one round.
On the men's side, Brady Zordan (Midhurst) was the top placing Georgian golfer on the day as he finished in a tie for ninth place after a round of 79. He is six strokes back of day one leader, Conner Watt from Humber.
Two-time national medalist Matt Lemay (Waterloo) is two strokes behind Zordan and sits in a tie for 17th place.
Jeff Ash (Barrie) is in a tie for 22nd, Josh Lynch (Burlington) is in a tie for 27th while Jonah Vidito (Kentville) is tied for 41st to round out Georgian's contingent at the event.
The men's team currently sits in fourth place with a combined score of 328 and is 17 strokes back of the leaders from Humber.
With two more rounds to play there is lots of room for change on the leaderboard. Round two begins on Tuesday with the third and final round being played on Wednesday.
